Welcome to Fangirl Friday, where I shamelessly fangirl about someone or something I love every week!
If you know me, you know that Lorde was the obvious choice for my first Friday as my favorite artist ever. I finally got to see her perform at Atlanta’s Music Midtown festival a few weeks ago and it was
life. changing. Fangirl heaven.
Plus, she’s the cover star for Elle this month so it’s only fitting.
My favorite thing about Lorde is the way she authentically captures the grand dreams of average teenagers. She champions the wisdom & power of youth in a time when the millennial generation is constantly criticized and underestimated.
Five more reasons to love Lorde:
1 she refuses to tame her fabulous hair
2 she loves experimenting with makeup but isn’t afraid to go without it
3 her style – goth, minimalist, normcore
4 HER DANCE MOVES
5 she's not afraid to speak her mind
At 17, Ella Yelich-O’Connor (her real name) knows who she is and she doesn’t let anyone tell her that she shouldn’t dance like a weirdo while she performs or that she should ditch her unique style for something skimpier or more mainstream. And that has proven to be the most alluring thing about her. She’s fashion forward, she has a haunting beauty to match her deep, moody lyrics, but most importantly, anyone who listens to Lorde or interviews her comes to the same conclusion: this girl has brains & she has something to say.
In case my lengthy synopsis of the new queen of alternative-hip-pop wasn’t enough for you, here are a few of my favorite Lorde interviews/articles:
