turmeric + honey face mask

Where beauty and skincare are concerned, I’ve tried a lot of home remedies. From sugar body scrubs and avocado hair masks to blueberry yogurt moisturizer and apple cider vinegar toner, I’ve slathered many a snack onto my body in hopes of that the items in my pantry can pack at least half the punch that those in my vanity do.

But, for the most part, I’ve determined that I’d prefer to leave the skincare to the scientists. Nothing I’ve tried has ever really worked wonders for me. Until now.

I came across the recipe for this turmeric and honey face mask on Byrdie Beauty recently and, despite my poor track record for this sort of thing actually working, I couldn’t resist giving it a shot. And wow, am I glad I did.

Not only did this mask make my skin incredibly soft and smooth, I also noticed it diminish some of my dark spots -- which is something I really struggle with. Byrdie Beauty says that this is because turmeric has the power to amp up collagen production, heal wounds, brighten your skin’s overall complexion. Better yet, it’s even been shown to protect against skin cancer, scleroderma, and psoriasis. Like, what??? Yes, please.

All you need is:

·      1 tbsp. raw honey

·      1 tsp. turmeric

·      4 to 5 drops of lemon (seriously, don’t overdo it here or this will slide right off your face)

Combine all of the ingredients into a small bowl and mix them together until you have a thick paste. Then, apply a generous portion to your face, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, and rinse off with warm water.

Be warned: turmeric will stain and ruin everything you love, so you must proceed with caution and dark-colored towels. Also note that it is a little bit hard to get off. I like to run a witch-hazel soaked cotton pad over my skin after rinsing to remove all the excess turmeric. No yellow-tinted pillow cases for me!

All in all, though, this is such a simple, easy way to give your skin some TLC, and it doesn’t taste bad either. ;)
