chichi explains it all: never been kissed

five lessons I learned about loving thyself from the drew barrymore 1999 classic

IT'S ALRIGHT TO HOLD OUT FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL.

Just like Josie Geller, I’m not really a casual relationship type of person, and I’m busy. I don’t have time for mediocre, so until someone worth my time comes around, I’m going to keep on loving myself.

SPEAK WHAT YOU WANT INTO EXISTENCE AND DON’T LET OTHERS’ DEFINITIONS OF YOU PERSIST.

I’m a big believer in saying and proclaiming what you want and don’t want out of life. If you believe in something, yell it loud and proud.

Tell the world who you are and don’t let it tell you! You aren’t “JOSIE GROSSY ANYMORE!”

FIND OUT WHO YOU ARE AND TRY NOT TO BE AFRAID OF IT.

This life is so much bigger than your current circumstance whatever it may be. Josie held on to what others thought of her for so long that she keep herself from growing. It sounds cheesy, but it’s only when she let go of those thoughts that she truly began to flourish.

AWKWARD MOMENTS SUCK BUT THEY'LL PASS.

Don’t beat yourself up about awkward moments. Whether It’s accidentally flinging a condom into a cute boy’s face or getting eggs thrown at you, we’ve all been victims of embarrassment. Contrary to what you may think, no one dwells on your social flops and neither should you.

HAPPY ENDINGS ARE REAL!

Josie found her happy ending, and I really believe everyone can find their version of that too. Whether your happy is four cats and and a mug of hot cocoa, loving yourself, or loving other people, figure it out and get it. Regardless of whatever negative stuff is going on in the world, we owe it to ourselves to find some semblance of happy.

*Happiness is not solely reliant on another human. I just really think this scene was cute!
