five years of fluf! final fluf! farewell fluf! all very bittersweet. i’d like to apologize to all the sweet angels here that it took me so long to post this … but we wouldn’t want their beautiful looks and words and songs to go un-shared! i pray that this place will always be a stylish, intellectual little time capsule… a slice of all our young and confused and scary and wonderful lives in the twenty-teens. i can’t wait to see what the next decade brings us! wishing you all light + love this year, this decade, and forever!

WEARING: A pair of low rise, boot cut, men’s denim from Old Navy circa 2005 ( with added panted splatters by yours truly).

LISTENING TO: Hearing the news of Daniel Johnston’s passing sent me deep into his discography. We lost a music genius last year. My favorite album on repeat is Artistic Vice. Favorite song from that album is Tell Me Now. It makes me believe in love again.

WATCHING: American Pyscho and The Lobster

READING: Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado/ A collection of short stories that constantly challenges my realities, makes me hate men more and connect to womanhood.

CREATING: A new home

BUYING: A few too many Beer and Shot combos

THINKING ABOUT: This month I’ve been trying to unlearn capitalism. I am questioning the importance of a job or career. Is there really such a thing as a dream job? Are you a job? How do I answer the question “What do you do?” Why do I measure my days by productivity and not happiness? How can I break down these social constructs?

Hannah Robbins Hopkins

Dolly Hopkins, girl wonder, came to live with us on September 1. We named her after the First Lady and the First Lady. She's a saint, putting up with our homework and showtunes and complete and total adoration of her every move. What a gift! Since we brought Dolly home, I've been mainlining Mary Oliver's Dog Songs, which will break you in all the right ways. If you have the means to rescue a shelter pet, I can't recommend it highly enough. We don't know much about Dolly's past, but we know she's taken up permanent residence now as the most precious member of our family.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?” — Mary Oliver, Dog Songs

LISTENING:
Step - Vampire Weekend
Dancing in the Dark - Lucy Dacus
Norton Commander - Men I Trust
Bird Watching at Inner Forest - Cornelius

TRAVELING: I just finished a week's trip up to San Francisco to see my parents, friends, and a couple of shows! I saw Hot Chip, Cornelius, Vampire Weekend, and Charli XCX all within a week of one another, and that's something I cannot do in LA given how far away the concert venues are from one another. From an energy standpoint, Charli XCX absolutely won and melted my face while Vampire Weekend injected a good dose of nostalgia into my evening. Every time I put them on, I'm reminded of how much living on the East Coast influenced the person I've become!

BUYING: I purchased this weird sleeveless knit from Kapital that I've actually been looking for for quite some time. I've been heavily inspired by Hunter Schafer's outfits portraying Jules in Euphoria - specifically how her base layers are long sleeve tees and I'm hoping to do more of that as it gets cooler in LA!

Maggie Mayes

DOING:
Exploring the “vessel” in Hudson yards
A long walk home from work

WEARING: jumpsuits, tote bags, reeboks. This has been a trend since i moved to New York. Tote bags and sneakers are a vital part of living here and i don’t think i will ever get tired of it.

WATCHING: Before sunrise. Before sunset. Before midnight. 3 movies all about 10 years apart. I suggest watching them all in a couple night span or all in one sitting. Good for a full range of emotions. Good for all the romantic feels too.

BUYING: i bought 2 pairs of sweat pants this month if that says anything about me. They’re cute sweatpants though so i can leave the house in them ;)

Brittany Savoie

Said goodbye to my old apartment and my summer internship at Mara Hoffman, moved to a new space in Brooklyn, co-hosted a house warming party (sorry to our new neighbors that can’t handle noise at midnight on a Friday), bought some more plants (a lot of plants…I may have a slight obsession), spent some quality time with my mom at a Williamsburg rooftop bar, started my last year at FIT and took on the role of President of my department student organization, and found time to indulge in some good food, great drinks, and new reads.

Thinking about: Climate change, sustainable living, leaving a legacy, the perfect recipe for Bee’s Knees, travel plans, plants, and endless streams of the China trade war drama.

Reading: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin, I Might Regret This by Abbi Jacobson, and I’m currently bouncing between The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt as my at home read and Fashion Climbing by Bill Cunningham as my subway read.

Listening to: Miss Mojo, my Spotify playlist Jazzy Gumbo on repeat while I study and work on projects, and The Trade Guys Podcast.

Eating: The Italian fare at Aqua Santa was my favorite of the month. You’ll sit there for hours and feel like you’re in Tuscany, the traffic and crowds of New York but a distant memory. Plus, the owner, Mariano, is quite a character.
