holiday gift guide: umano & more
If you haven't heard, umano is the next big thing.
Because who says t-shirts can't be dressed up for any & every occasion?
Social entrepreneurship is here to stay, and the umano brothers, Jonathan and Alex Torrey, are taking apparel that gives back to the next level. If you missed their recent Shark Tank episode, here's the deal:
Their beautifully-designed, minimal t-shirts are made with the highest-quality European fabrics so that when you want to wear them every single day, they stay comfy and crisp-looking.
ALSO, a portion of every profit goes towards their giving trips, in which they visit a school and give a backpack full of school and art supplies to each kid, and encourage them to stay creative and keep on doodling.
The original artwork you see on their clothing was drawn by the children that they give back to. And you can find each child's story on their website. So, this season, if you're looking to give a practical, charitable gift that also looks awesome - umano is the jackpot.
Above are two of my shirts with old umano designs. But my current favorites are the Rudolph & the Waddle (drawn by a girl named Sarah who likes to make funny faces... we're soul sisters).
Also wearing: Abercrombie & Fitch pleather jacket, thrifted tartan skirt, Nine West heels (similar, to-die-for heels here) / American Eagle cardigan, black H&M jeans, Gucci boots.
Here are a few of my other favorite gifts I want to give (or get! ...anyone? ;D) :
1. The Jimmy Fallon x J. Crew PocketDial.
It's gotten a lot of buzz lately, but did you know that all of the proceeds from this #hipdad iPhone case will go to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust? It's a Kenyan charity that protects African elephants from poachers and extinction.
2. The Britt Bass x Eva Black 2016 calendar.
It has a different fine art print that you can take out of the calendar each month and keep on using for decor. #multipurpose #iamcalendarobsessed
3. Ink Bouquets (& adorable critters) by Evan Blackwell.
I've known this ever-talented gal since elementary school and it is so amazing to see her art business flourishing. Also please, for the love of God someone, buy me that hedgehog <3
4. Original Art by Shefali Patel.
This lady's kickass fashion sketches and brightly-colored art pieces are to die for. She has an internship with the Ralph Lauren design team under her belt and she'll soon head to Parson's for an Master's in Design, so she's well on her way to the top.
5. Compliment Calling Cards from Compliments Of.
These super cute cards each have their own unique compliment on them & a "compliments of: your name here" section on the back. A perfect, heart-felt cop out of writing a long-ass card. Or a simple little appreciation token for the many friends you got love - but no money - for.
What else is everyone giving / hoping to get this lovely Star Wars Holiday Special season?
xo,
sarah
